movie 72/90 – Kate (2021)

Starts with a nice assassin killing. Betrayal. Revenge begins. Car chase. Knife fight. Mild kidnapping. Hand to hand combat. Running. Gun violence. Revelation of plot. Another betrayal. Regret. Hurt. Epic gun violence. Some story and dialogues. Mild sadness. The end.

I haven’t seen a great action movie in such a long time, especially new ones and this was a pleasant surprise. No one walks into the movie expecting deeply written plot or stellar performances but again it was a surprise. The plot was cliche but the main character, Kate, was really good.

Except for that car chase scene this was very well choreographed action scenes. It’s a formulaic story and the execution was pretty meh, but I confess; I couldn’t take my eyes odd during action scenes.

Rating – a fun movie to play while relaxing. Lots of blood so there is that. It was a good way to start the weekend.

cc movie 9/52 – In the mood for love (2000)

I love this movie. Absolutely love it.

A man and a woman who are neighbors, strike up a friendship. They are married to other people. They start a kind of sort of relationship of their own when they find that their spouses are cheating on them with each other.

This isn’t a grand love story where it’s all resolved. It’s adult and mature and, well so darn grounded that it’s quite disappointing how it doesn’t give the payoff you truly want. Because that’s now how it really works.

Set in 60s Hongkong, there is both sharp quietness and brazen loudness to this movie. Red is splashed in almost every frame – curtains, bedspreads, table cloth, wall paper or dress or a tie or even carpet. The color of passion is displayed but the words are muted. In everyday sounds of phone ringing and typewriter clicking or the noise of food making, the man and women continue to talk.

Rating – watch this. Highly recommend this one. I can write so much about this but will stop here. The haunting melody will draw you in, trust me.

cc movie 8/52 – My beautiful laundrette (1985)

This is an odd one. A Pakistsni boy in love with an English boy and fucking around (literally and figuratively) at a laundrette, and it shows at multiple times the motivations ans what sets then apart and the same in so many frames and multiple angles.

I both liked this movie, for the style it presented and kind of got bored with the narration and the oddly paced dialogues. The characters that are secondary are sharp edged to a point where the jagged edges make the screen bleed. This isn’t good for the narration since it takes away precious screen time from a young Daniel day Lewis who is simply charming. He hasn’t grown to his skin yet but it’s evident where the chops are coming from.

The carnality of the characters is the common theme, the running theme really and the dingy laundrette becomes the place of happenstance. It’s where relationships come to mutate. And it happens so many times, it’s really…beautiful.

Rating – I enjoyed it. I took couple of days of break because I didn’t have the time to give it the kind of attention it deserved. I wouldn’t say it’s a great movie, to be honest. It’s a perfectly good cinema and one that makes you pause and if you are with someone, discuss it with them for sure.

movie 71/90 – The Conjuring Devil made me do it (2021)

This was one of my most anticipated movie this year. And it was dogshit. I am still annoyed ans irritated with it.

Also a lot of stuff came out about the real life couple on who the couple in the movie is based on. They have scammed families in real life who were in crisis and profited. That’s the allegations they face. It’s put a wrong spin on the whole thing and the entire thing is tainted. Belief is one thing, but abuse of faith is something else.

In completely put off by this. I couldn’t enjoy the movie and not that it’s good but I love Pat and Vera chemistry. Now I want this franchise to die.

Rating – honestly this is one of the better made horror movies. It’s nothing like conjuring, doesn’t have that creepy jump scare this is known for but it’s not as bad as that dogshit Nun either. But Nun is weirdly comforting to me so jokes on me I guess.

Oh whatever. It’s not a bad watch. That’s all I can say.

movie 69/70 – The Unholy (2021)

I like church type religious horror. Demons and exorcism and the drill. This one has quite an interesting premise for like 2 seconds before the entire thing is railed to the ground.

A teen who has been hard of hearing all her life is suddenly able to hear and speak and perform miracles. A reporter happens to chance upon this and becomes sort of messenger. Vatican decides to intervene and investigate the miracles and sees that they are truly so.

Question – there are so many church denominations why is it always Roman catholic. Maybe cause Vatican sounds good.

Moving on…its not as it seems so because this is horror movie. For that one person who is read this and wants to watch this movie, am not gonna spoil.

It’s a bit draggy and hell predictable. Good for horror introduction and bragging rights that you watched horror.

Rating – skip if you are a seasoned horror movie watcher. Or looking for something new. If you are new to genre, it’s okay I guess.

movie 68/90 – Aftermath (2021)

The woman keeps telling her husband that she hears weird shit in the house and her husband says…but…but…you slept with some dude.

And then when she tries to investigate he basically calls her a mad woman and everything is in her head even when there is actual real physical evidence.

She figures out some things and when she starts putting things together he whines and says how she is bothering people.

I wish this husband character got axed. But didn’t.

Rating – so so meh.

movie 67/90 – Seance (2021)

I am a native child. And gullible. Also bored a bit. So I watched this. And it was…meh.

When horror movies have more dialogues than a normal drama, we have a problem. While writing the script this should’ve been a red flag. Also when you have setting like this one, an elite boarding school, it doesn’t automatically mean it’s an age old building without windows. Half the time I couldn’t see anything because it was always dark. Even during the say. Okay I get that it was winter but still. It’s not pitch dark!!

Terrible acting, and terrible story aside I had to sit down and wonder why the killer tried all this anyway. Why are people such terrible at basic common sense. I blame bad writing but still all of this was stupid.

Then again I am the dumbshit that watched the whole movie so….

Rating – eh, drinks, snacks and this. Bet on who gets killed and in which order and take shots while it happens. Take the whole bottle if you guess the plot.

movie 66/90 – The Final Girls (2015)

You must think I am being punished. I swear I am not. I am watching all garbage movies of my own violation. I am just dumb and make stupid decisions thats all.

Having said that, this isn’t a bad movie. It’s not the worst movie I watched this weekend, if that makes you feel any better. It’s just all over the place and it’s genuinely tries hard. And for that I can’t fault in it.

Its still meh though.

Review – I would say, still give it a shot. Might surprise you. There is nothing great about it. But it tries.
